About Any Kine Finds

Any Kine Finds started with an idea from my boyfriend — sell a few things on eBay, find something for us to do together. When it came to naming it, he pulled out a pidgin slang from back home: "Any Kine." You know how it goes — "What you like?" "Any Kine." That was it. My name is Leah. I grew up on Maui, in Lahaina, after moving there from California in 1979. Back then there wasn't much thrifting — just the Salvation Army down by 505 Front Street, and that was for necessity, not treasure hunting. I was too busy cruising Front Street and sitting on the bench at Lahainaluna High School, looking down past the sugar cane fields all the way to the harbor, Molokai, and Lanai. Best view in the world.

I joined the service, lived in different states and visited a couple of countries, but always missed home. When my son was on the way, I moved back to Maui — no way was I raising him in Chicago. He grew up on Maui and is still there it is his home. I met Chris on Maui about 16 years ago. We always talked about moving to the mainland for a while — see some places, have some adventures. We finally set the date: August 16th, 2023. We had a last dinner at Kimo's on Front Street, walked by the Banyan Tree, said my goodbyes in my own way and told her I will be gone for a little while. It was the Tuesday before we left that the Lahaina Fire happened. The most devastating thing that has happened on Maui and far as I knew around the country. It was mostly the reason for the fires - that was Hurricane Dora Category 4. She went under the islands and she took all our humidity and gave us lot of winds and no rain. Then I moved to California, then came the Palisades and Eaton fires. Loss has a way of following you.

Today, we can't bring back what was lost — but maybe you'll find a look-alike and give it a new story. Any Kine Finds is a curated collection of vintage treasures, collectibles, mugs, handmade items, and unique curiosities. I love the idea that you might find something that reminds you of what you or members of your family had when you were a kid. I once found a watercolor of Lahaina by a Maui artist — all the way out in Joshua Tree. Every item we carry has been hand-picked. Something to remember some of these items are 20+ yrs, its character, and its story is what you make it now. We don't do mass-produced items, we want to be a Zero-Waste Thrifting Circulation Co. Doing what we can for Sustainability. We just do finds.
